RGV Vipers facility to not pay property taxes for 30 years

Edinburg – The lease agreement between the City of Edinburg and the Vipers’ Corporation, which seems to have been written by someone in the Vipers’ Corporation is clearly primarily beneficial to the Vipers’.   In fact, we fail to see any benefit to the city.

The lease payment to the City will be ONE DOLLAR A YEAR

  • The Vipers’ will have ultimate-use-authority over the facility, little or no revenue will come to the City for thirty years.
  • The Vipers’ authority includes leasing to private businesses certain areas of the facility.
  • The City will pay all utilities including a maintenance fee to ensure effective day-to-day operation.
  • NO PROPERTY TAXES WILL BE PAID to the City, County, ISD or other taxing bodies for thirty years.

Fewer Blacks, Hispanics Go Jobless Under Trump

by Fred Lucas, The Daily Signal

More black and Hispanic Americans are getting jobs on President Donald Trump’s watch, the latest employment numbers show, although critics accuse him of ignoring such minority populations.

The White House, not surprisingly, is happy to tout the results.

Unemployment among blacks declined from 8 percent one year ago to 7.3 percent in November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Blacks’ labor force participation rate rose slightly over the past year, from 61.9 percent in November 2016 to 62.2 percent last month.

Unemployment among Hispanics fell by a percentage point, from 5.7 percent to 4.7 percent, over the year. Hispanics’ labor force participation rate held steady, dipping from 65.7 percent to 65.6 percent.

The labor force participation rate reflects the percentage of Americans working or actively looking for work, while the unemployment rate is the percentage of jobless Americans still looking for work, as opposed to having given up.

“All Americans continue to see results from the president’s bold economic agenda,” White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters told The Daily Signal in a written statement, adding:

While overall unemployment in November remained at a nearly 17-year low, the rate is also at historic lows among several groups, including Hispanics—where it is the lowest in at least 44 years—and African-Americans—where it is at its lowest levels since 2000.

The overall unemployment rate fell to 4.1 percent, a 17-year low. It was 3.6 percent among whites and 3 percent among Asians, about the same for both as a year ago.

Teen unemployment, measured from ages 16 to 19, was the dark lining. Though it dropped nominally from November 2016, from 26.6 to 25.5 percent, that’s up from 23.3 in July.

Limiting taxes and curbing unnecessary government regulation makes it easier for workers and entrepreneurs to succeed, said Daniel Garza, president of the Libre Initiative, a conservative Hispanic group.

“The Hispanic community is beginning to see the benefits of an improving economy. Lawmakers in Washington have a critical opportunity to deliver on tax reform that lowers rates, closes loopholes, and enhances competitiveness—which families and entrepreneurs are counting on,” Garza told The Daily Signal in an email statement, adding:

By locking these reforms in place for the long term, Congress and the president will help to ensure a stable environment that encourages greater economic opportunity and wage growth. Reducing the tax rate on American businesses to 20 percent—without creating new tax burdens—will be particularly helpful in ensuring the U.S. economy is competitive with those of our major trading partners, boosting the prospects of American workers and families. Hispanic families stand to gain a great deal if lawmakers deliver on these promises in the days ahead.

The economy has surpassed 3 percent growth for several months.

When President Barack Obama was in the White House, critics of candidate Trump said 3 percent growth would be impossible, noted Stephen Moore, an economist who is a distinguished visiting fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

“The left’s problem is that they said there is no way to grow the economy at 3 percent, and now they say it’s because of Obama,” Moore, who advised the Trump campaign on economics, told The Daily Signal. “Every economic indicator, with no exceptions, shows we are looking at forward growth. It’s very positive, and a dramatic improvement.”

Sen. Al Franken Resigns in Wake of Sexual Miscount Accusations

by Henry Rodgers, The Daily Signal

WASHINGTON—Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., officially resigned in a speech on the Senate floor Thursday amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Franken’s resignation comes the day after several dozen of his Democratic colleagues called for the Minnesota Democratic to step aside. Before announcing his resignation, Franken called himself a “champion of woman.”

“Serving in the United States Senate has been a great honor of my life … Today I am announcing that in the coming weeks, I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate,” Franken said.

“I was shocked. I was upset. But in responding to their claims, I wanted to be respectful of that broader conversation because all women deserve to be heard and their experience taken seriously,” the Franken said in his speech. “I’m giving up my seat, but I’m not giving up my voice.”

News anchor Leeann Tweeden first accused Franken in late November of forcibly kissing her and groping her on a USO tour in 2006. Franken apologized for his behavior, but continued to face allegations from a number of other women, who say he sexually mistreated them while serving in the U.S. Senate. Seven women now have accused Franken of sexual misconduct.

Minnesota’s female Democratic lieutenant governor, Tina Smith, will reportedly replace Franken to prevent a special election that would give Republicans an opportunity to run for Franken’s now vacant seat.

“Even on the worst day of my political life, it’s all been worth it,” Franken said. “I’m giving up my seat, but I’m not giving up my voice.”

Jury Finds Illegal Immigrant Not Guilty in Killing of Kate Steinle

by Will Racke, The Daily Signal

A San Francisco jury found the illegal immigrant accused of killing Kate Steinle not guilty of murder Thursday, a stunning result in a case that ignited a nationwide debate over illegal immigration and sanctuary cities.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 45, was found not guilty on all counts in the 2015 shooting, except for felony possession of a weapon. Zarate faced a charge of second-degree murder, but jurors were instructed to consider first-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

At trial, Zarate admitted to firing the shot that killed Steinle, 32, but contended that he had picked up a .40-caliber handgun underneath a bench on the San Francisco pier and accidentally fired it July 1, 2015.

A ballistics investigation revealed that the bullet skipped off the pavement before hitting Steinle in the back as she walked with her father on a popular pier, lending credence to Zarate’s claims that the shooting was an accident.

A Mexican national, Zarate–then known as Juan Francisco López-Sánchez–is a seven-time convicted felon who had been deported from the U.S. five times before the shooting.

Just months before the shooting, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials lodged an immigration detainer for Zarate with the San Francisco sheriff’s office, which declined the request.

In an interview with local media, Zarate said he had made his way to San Francisco because he knew he would be less likely to be deported because of the city’s sanctuary policies. The incident sparked a nationwide debate over sanctuary cities and later became a central theme of Donald Trump’s campaign for president.

This summer, the House of Representatives passed a bill known as Kate’s Law, which would toughen penalties for illegal immigrants who have been deported and then illegally re-enter the country.

The bill has not been taken up in the Senate.

SICK! YouTube Search Autocompletes “How To Have S*x With Your Kids”

by Joshua Caplan, The Gateway Pundit

Screenshots showing YouTube autocomplete the search “How to have s*x with your kids,” has been making the rounds on 4chan and Reddit. Independent journalist Mike Cernovich tweeted a screenshot of the autocorrect Sunday, asking YouTube for a comment.

BuzzFeed reporter Charlie Warzel tried the search himself and found that indeed the search is genuine.

“Hi @TeamYouTube: Why does “How to have…” auto fill into pedophile content? Multiple people reported this to me,” asked Cernovich.

“Seeing this sceenshot float around so I just did it myself in incognito mode. This i a VERY troubling YouTube search autocomplete, no?,” tweeted BuzzFeed reporter Charlie Warzel.

The search does not yield any videos instructing parents on how to have sex with their kids.

“should note that if you click any of those you do not get any pedophile vids (that i could see but still…what’s going on?,” added Warzel.

The BuzzFeed reporter has reached out to YouTube for comment.

Others tweeted screenshots showing the same autocompleted search.

Later on, Warzel suggested the autocomplete search could be a “trolling campaign.”

“YouTube has yet to respond but important to note that it could (maybe?) also be the work of a coordinated trolling campaign to make YouTube look even worse after a week of being linked to child exploitation content.”

The Gateway Pundit will update its story with YouTube’s response.
