Edinburg – Law enforcement from several departments took immediate action to secure the safety of staff and students due to an anonymous threat that was received by school officials.
Parents were notified shortly after 7 am regarding the threat, causing many parents to check in with their children to verify their safety.
Edinburg CISD police, along with law officers from the Edinburg Police Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety worked to secure school grounds. During the safety sweep, students were heavily monitored, only allowed to enter or exit rooms upon being assured they were not a threat. Allegedly students were also lined up and belongings searched by law enforcement.
The Edinburg CISD gave a statement to KRGV regarding the threat:
“This morning, the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (ECISD) received an anonymous threat to Edinburg High School. We immediately notified parents. Additional ECISD police will be at EHS for additional surveillance. We are taking all precautions necessary. Please know we take all threats seriously as the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority.”
Law enforcement is expected to have a heavy presence when classes resume Friday morning.
